Weekend Pinterest Project

I work with the most amazing people on the planet – every single one of them!  I work especially close with my little team of teachers that I think hung the moon!  The art, music, and PE teacher are my heroes!  They work with every little body in our building, teach them skills to make them well-rounded little humans, and love them the whole way there.

I wanted to make sure that they know how much I appreciate them, so I put together a little “You Rule” gift for them (with inspiration from Pinterest of course!).

I know!  Super cute, right!?  Very teacher-esque Smile.  I saw these ruler vases on Pinterest and decided to put a few together.

You would be surprised how hard it was to find old-fashioned wooden rulers.  They have florescent ones, rubber ones, see-through ones, but no old-fashioned wooden ones!  I went EVERYWHERE, and finally found them at Target…for 30 cents each!  So I bought every one they had! Smile

We started by pulling out the small metal piece on the edges. Actually, I started by trying to just cut the rulers with the metal in there…bad idea…when metal went flying, almost in my eye, we decided to pull them out before cutting any more.

Then I cut them to size with the miter saw.  I knew I wanted two small containers for pencil holders, and two larger ones as vases.  So I cut them on the 4 inch mark, which gave me one 4 inch piece and one 8 inch piece from every ruler.

I used the hot glue gun to glue the rulers onto clean spaghetti jars (I love to recycle).  I had these super cool, square jars for the pencil holders – don’t you just love them!?

My next step was to put painters tape about 1/3 of the way up the container and paint the bottom white or blue.

Finally, I cut out and put together the pieces for the “My Team Rules” cards.  I used my silhouette, which we all know I LOVE!  I made sure to write a personal note for each of my teammates on the back of their cards.  Didn’t they just turn out perfectly sweet!?  I am so excited about delivering in the morning…I hope they love them!

A Project on the Run

I am super excited to share this little diddy with you today! This is a project I have been planning in my mind since January. A while back I made a bib holder for my sweet boy to hold all his running bibs and medals from his 5k accomplishments.

Since hubs and I have started partaking in the 5k fun, I have been saving all our running bibs and making a super messy collection on my craft table. So yesterday I finally got around to marking one more project off the list….a couple’s bib holder!

This one was pretty easy. I purchased the board from Michaels just to make things go a little quicker (basically I didn’t feel like dragging out the saw). I stained it black, attached some hooks, and placed on the monograms and quote that I cut out of vinyl on my Silhouette Machine.

I am super happy with the finished result. We hung it in the hallway so we would walk past it everyday and be reminded to stay active….and so others would see it and we could brag about our accomplishments…hehe.

Smore Fun with Friends

I am so excited to share this little project with you guys!  I have seen these smores bars all over Tumbler, Pinterest, and the Blog world and couldn’t wait to try my own.  We invited all the friends over to cook out, watch some Dawgs Football, and enjoy the Smores bar.  It was a total hit (with the gals especially)!

I started by having hubs build me this beautiful box (which I have also filled with candles and floral arrangements for the centerpiece on my dining table).  I filled the box with “lava rocks” from the dollar store, and gel burners from the party section at Wal-Mart.

I surrounded the “fire pit” with a variety of different chocolates, flavored marshmallows, and yummy cookies.  The labels are made from a coke can and a sharpie marker.

Marshmallows:  Regular, strawberry, pumpkin, and toasted coconut

Cookies:  Regular Grahams, Chocolate Grahams, Ginger Snaps, and Almond Snaps

Chocolate:  Ghiradelli mixed back (mint, caramel, and peppermint), Reeses Peanut Butter Cups, Milk Chocolate Hershey Bar, Hershey with Almonds, and Hershey Cookies and Cream

We had so much fun mixing and matching all the flavors!  This was a great gathering place to sit, enjoy company, and enjoy experimenting with flavors!  I can’t wait to use it again!

Mumified Oreos ~ Perfect for a Pumpkin’s 1st Birthday

Is this not the most precious face you have ever seen!?

I can’t believe this little pumpkin is turning ONE today!  This is my best friend’s little pumpkin that lit up everybody’s world on Halloween last year!  Her mommy planned a super-special first birthday party for her.  We all had a great time!

I helped her momma with a super special treat for the party….Mumified Oreos.  You can Google, or search Pinterest and see many versions of these, but today we are going to show you how we did it. :0)

We started by twisting apart the Oreos and putting two “cream sides” together…with a stick in the middle. (If we had thought about it, we would have just bought double stuffed Oreos)

Jamie was in charge of the chocolate dipping.  After we had the Oreo on a stick, Jamie covered the entire Oreo with white chocolate (delicious!).

Next, I had some white chocolate in a Ziploc bag.  I cut a little end of the bag and used it like a piping bag to pipe the “mummy wrap” onto the top of the mummy.

And finally, we had a little helper that added the candy eyes to the mummies.  (Jamie found the eyes at Walmart of all places!)

They turned out so super cute….and they were delicious too!

FTLoP ~ Smelly Vacuum

For the Love of Pinterest!  I can’t find the post where I found this original idea (sorry), but I can say that I tried it and it worked!

When you have dogs, like I do, sometimes the vacuum gets a little smelly.  I saw this tip on Pinterest, gave it a try, and was very pleased!

All you do is sprinkle some essential oil of your choice on a few scraps of toilet tissue, sprinkle the tissue pieces around the floor, and just vacuum them up first.  Then as you vacuum the rest of your house, your vacuum will fill the air in each room with the smell of your essential oils.  Love it!

FTLoP ~ Apple Cinnamon Roll Cupcakes

This yummy recipe was found on Pinterest during my hunt for Apple Recipes to use from our Apple Farm Pickings.

I will say that this recipe was very time consuming, but totally worth it!

I followed the recipe exactly as posted on Homemade by Holman, so if you like what you see, head on over and print out the recipe…but make sure you have a long afternoon of time to devote to it. Smile

For the Love of Pinterest ~ Never Pay for Redbox Again

When I saw this pin I had to re-pin it and follow it to the Pretty Providence Blog.  Hubs and his brother are like the younger, cooler Siskel and Ebert.  They watch every movie that comes out;  the good, the bad, and the super scary, and they aren’t scared to give you their opinion about it.

Going to the movies is WAAAYYYYY too expensive for people that watch a lot of movies, Blockbuster-type places don’t exist anymore, and ordering from the Pay Per View is saved for must-see movies only since they are $4.99 a pop.  $1 is do-able, even if the movie turns out to me a major dud.  But there is nothing better than getting them for FREE.

We tried out all of the codes that were shared on the Pretty Providence blog, and even followed her link to the Inside Redbox page and tried those too.  Some worked…some didn’t.  Some worked online, some worked only at the kiosk.  If you are willing to write them down, hold up the line to try multiple codes sometimes, and can remember to take the codes with you to the kiosk, it is totally worth it….

….But honestly, Hubs and I decided it was too much work and we would just pay the dollar.  So maybe this pin was a semi-dud. Thinking smile
